Al Badr charity is a legal registered charity, number 1132 which has been started in the village of Beshlaw 25 kilometers north of Luxor in upper Egypt to try and improve the lives of all the people living there and in the surrounding villages.
At the moment there is a nursery school with 57 pupils, the number being expected to go up to 70 or more in the next school year. The children are taught to read and write as well as learnig through play. We are running a summer school with many activities during June and July. There are also adult education classes for those who did not have the opportunity to go to school when they were young themselves.
There is a weekly medical clinic staffed by volunteer doctors which is free, and some medication has been donated by local pharmacies which is also given free if the doctors have prescribed it. We hope to expand this clinic to include child welfare and patient education.
A project has been started to provide sanitary facilities for families with no bathroom, as well as roofs for houses where necessary.
Weekly lectrures take place to try to educate the local people in the correct meaning of Islam to encourage tolerance and kind and generous behavior.
We try to improve the general environment of the area by having cleaning up days to rid the village of rubbish for example.
Both Muslems and Christians give their time to the charity and work to make the village a better place to live. There is no religious discrimination of any kind.
There is a fund which helps people who have no income and also helps with household items for people who are getting married. We also help with serious medical conditions by getting in touch with other large charities in other parts of Egypt. Donations are made to the local orphanage as well as helping with the careof the children.
A very kind English family is working hard to raise money for much needed equipment and, so far, they have donated a business printer and photocopier, with a donation towards a computer, as well as many items for the nursey school. These included stationery, toys, clothes and much more besides.
So much more is needed as the charity is expanding and covering more villages, approximately 10 in all up to now and we are hoping to start a small clothing factory to give work to the local women very soon.
The clinic will be moving into larger premises and more medical equipment will be required.
